About UsLanguage Competence Center is a unit of the University international structure functioning under the supervision of the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation. Lack of specialists with knowledge of foreign languages is an obstacle to academic mobility in Russia, training internationalization, integration to international educational community. According to the NArFU development Programme the University’s priorities are to provide the teaching and administrative staff competitiveness, to offer education activities in accordance with the world best practices. Therefore, improving NArFU staff language competence is a measure to reach the objectives. It is important to understand that language knowledge is more than just its vocabulary knowledge. Even in one’s native language a person’s vocabulary is limited within certain topics. To provide academic activities in English a teacher should have a certain level of communication competence. It is comprised of language competence (its usage, structure and rules knowledge), awareness of communication social and cultural context, ways of interaction with people, etc. Thus, forming and developing language and communication competences of academic staff is an essential task for higher educational establishments nowadays. To solve the task Language Competence Center offers a number of courses. After the on-line test and interview, teaching and administrative staff will be recommended courses depending on their knowledge level. The key feature of the Center is innovative computer technologies and teaching methods involvement. Apart from Beginner and Elementary levels, starting from Pre-Intermediate level participants will be offered English for Academic Purposes courses to suit their research interests and professional activities.
