“The Forum was open, productive and competently organized”, stated Elena Kudryashova.
“The Forum was attended by representatives of almost all the Arctic Council member and observer states. We did not expect such an impressive number of participants. Over 2 000 people worked at the key sessions and side-events. The Forum’s conclusion was also remarkable. It involved an extremely important meeting of three leaders of the states in turn assuming the chairmanship of the Arctic Council. The Presidents of Russia, Finland and Iceland agreed upon common stands on various arctic issues and managed to find common ground in order make their joint work even more efficient and rewarding”, related the Rector.
According to Elena Kudryashova, the meeting of the university administration with the President of Iceland Guðni Jóhannesson allowed to come to an agreement on the continuation of NArFU’s cooperation with Icelandic universities, including the organization of joint scientific and expeditionary projects. The Rector also commented on the Forum’s key results - the signing of a memorandum of understanding between National Arctic Research and Education Consortium and the University of the Arctic and an agreement between NArFU and ROSNEFT.
Elena Kudryashova specifically thanked the volunteers for their commitment and contribution to the creation of a friendly and comfortable atmosphere at the Forum’s various events. The Rector also stressed that the IV International Arctic Forum had laid a solid foundation for the organization of the next Forum “Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” in 2019.
It is important to note that Northern Arctic Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov hosted the International Arctic Forum for the second time. The first forum took place in Arkhangelsk in 2011.
